On Tuesday, January 12, Mainstay held its Annual General Meeting, which included the tenant vote on whether or not to join with Houselink Community Homes. Fifty-nine tenants cast their vote. 88% voted in favour. A minimum 66% vote was needed for the motion to pass.

To keep staff, board members and tenants safe, the meeting and vote were held by phone and over Zoom. The vote followed months of tenant engagement, sharing information and answering questions.

Both organizations needed a positive tenant vote to proceed with becoming one organization. With Houselink’s 84% positive tenant vote from November 25, both organizations have now passed a significant milestone in the journey to become one, larger supportive housing provider. Next steps include seeking formal approval from funders at the Ministry of Health and beginning plans to legally become one organization with a target date of April 1, 2021.
